2010 Campus Compact Student Conference

Burst the Bubble:
2010 Jenzabar/Campus Compact Best in Class Student Conference

CHANGE your Service Perspective... IMPACT your Community... NETWORK with those who dare!

The North Carolina Campus Compact invites NC, SC and VA students, VISTAs, faculty and staff involved in campus-based civic engagement efforts to attend this year's Student Conference to be held on Saturday November 6th at Johnson C. Smith University, Charlotte NC.  The conference schedule has been released as of yesterday and may be viewed as a pdf by clicking on the following:  2010 Student Conference Schedule.  The cost for attending the conference is $20.  This covers your  transportation, meals and the overall conference experience and material.  You will not be officially registered until I receive your payment.

The Student Conference brings individuals together from across the region to network, share and learn about best practices and unique innovative ideas in civic engagement. Sessions focus on topics including community service, leadership, service-learning, advocacy and activism.  In addition student awards are presented during the end of the conference.  Our very own NC-ACTS! Fellow, Brittany Yates is a recipient of the 2010 Community Student Award given annually.  Congratulations Brittany, it is well deserved!

Below is a direct link that will take you to the home Student Conference page on the NCCC website where all this and other detailed information can be found:

Conference Goals:

  • Highlight student-initiated civic engagement practices across the state, e.g., campus service initiatives, environmental programs, best practices, student-led projects, community gardens, service-learning course ideas, service's impact on culture/diversity, and anti-poverty facilitation
  • Inspire student leaders with creative ideas that can impact communities
  • Connect like-minded students in hopes of building collaboration around similar projects
  • Build civically-engaged students who gain confidence in using their skills to impact communities today and in the future

The 2010 the Jenzabar Foundation awarded NC Campus Compact one of three national “Best in Class” Student Service Leadership Conferences grants which will help ensure a vibrant community of strong student leaders. NC Campus Compact is the only grantee that will host two conferences reaching students in North Carolina, Virginia (who has no Campus Compact), and South Carolina—whose Compact is relatively new.
